In Grade 6 I&S class the students are finishing up their final unit on Managing the Changing Environment. The students used their research notes and sources from the past 2 weeks in order to identify different views on global warming and the implications of following the advice from the sources.
In Grade 7 I&S the students are completing their final unit on Globalization. The students used their prior knowledge on the unit and feedback from their classwork to complete an individual task on recognizing different perspectives related to globalization and explaining the implications of different sources.
This week the Grade 8 I&S the students are completing their final unit on Global Inequalities with a focus on quality of life indicators. The students used their prior knowledge on the unit and feedback from their classwork to complete an individual task on recognizing different perspectives related to global inequalities and explaining the implications of different sources.
Grade 9 & 10 students were writing their final exams this week.
Psychology
The Grade 11 Psychology students spent the week doing their end of year assessments.
Business Management
This has been a very quiet but intense week with Grade 11 students taking exams. The highlight is the fantastic achievement of students in both Grade groups making it through to the finals of a very challenging business completion and the weekly newsletter should carry a piece about this. Benjamin Bae (grade 11) seated left is one of the successful IVEY completion finalists.
And well done to another (our 3rd team) who had a fantastic mark but sadly had to drop out from the final due to exam pressures this week. But this team will be at the World Economic Forum participating in the Final alongside 1,000 !!! other competitors in Shanghai for the Asdan Business Finals – good luck to them! I am confident they will walk away with shiny medals!
Mathematics Highlights

The Grade 6 students have undertaken a project to create a one-page poster that addresses a specific community issue, highlighting the importance and potential concerns surrounding it. The poster incorporates three types of graphs (bar, circle, and line), a summary and analysis of the graphs, key statistics, observed trends, predictions, and possible next steps.
The seventh-grade students are carrying forward their exploration of statistical concepts. They are specifically delving into the concepts of average, middle value, and most frequent value, while also developing comprehension of divisions into quarters and visual representations of data using box plots and whisker plots within the realm of distinct data gathering.
Grade 8 students have been working on investigating "What Does It Mean to Be Human?". They chose two variables whose relationship they wanted to investigate to understand how the relationship between them could help them to address the question. This not only encouraged students to think deeply about their own humanity but also fostered critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and empathy towards diverse perspectives.
Grades 9-11 students have been completing their final examinations all week.

In inquiry, K1 has been learning about community roles and responsibilities recently. To explore how each person can contribute to the community and the environment, the class engaged in a role-playing activity.
In Language Arts, the class focused on the letter sound O and practiced forming it using different materials. We read "Little Princess - I don"t want help!" to emphasize the importance of using polite words and practicing positive statements like "I can".
In Math, the students connected dots from 1-10 to create a snail. During a visit to Legoland, the class practiced creating and identifying patterns like ABAB and AABB.
K3

Inquiry: We are wrapping up our last unit of the year, How We Express Ourselves, with some exciting activities. Last week, the K3s finished planning and setting up fantasy play areas in their classrooms. They used furniture, blankets, boxes, drawings and toys from home to rearrange and decorate the new play areas to their liking.
Symbolic Exploration: we have been reviewing and consolidating the knowledge and skills that we’ve built throughout the year. More specifically, in English we have reviewed word blending and some of the more common Tricky Words, by playing fun games in pairs and small groups.

Grade 2
Ms. Camila Kemeny Larrondo and Mr. Duane Miller
In grade 2, we have been working on our reading skills in Language Arts class. We"ve been reading fiction and non-fiction passages to improve our comprehension skills, and practicing strategies like making predictions and summarizing key ideas.
In math class, we have been reviewing and building upon our prior knowledge of various math topics over the past few weeks. We"ve reviewed addition and subtraction strategies, multiplication and division, and 3D and 2D shapes, as well as practiced reading time to the nearest 5-minute mark.
Our "How We Organize Ourselves" unit has prompted our learners to inquire about financial decision-making. Through two projects, the students have learned how to create a budget and stick to it, give change, and create goods and services.
Grade 4
Mr. Adam Fell and Ms. Carla Du Toit
In Language Arts, the students focused on persuasive writing. They learned about the different techniques used in persuasive writing and practiced writing persuasive essays. They also worked on their public speaking skills by giving persuasive speeches in front of the class.
In Math, the students began a new unit on financial literacy. They learned about the importance of budgeting, saving, and investing money. They also learned about different types of financial institutions and how they work.
In Inquiry, the students continued to investigate human migration. They learned about the different reasons why people migrate and the challenges that refugees face when they leave their homes. They also read and discussed stories of refugees and their experiences.
The students also had two fun-filled weeks with two special events. They participated in a Sports Day event where they competed in various races. They also celebrated Children"s Day with fun water activities and games.
